Integrating SketchUp in 4th Grade

The 4th graders just wrapped up a neat math project that focused on measurement and area, by having them design floor plans for apartments. They drew up “blueprints” and used furniture templates to create rooms in their model living spaces. They also made detailed notes of the square footage of each room and space.

Building off their paper plans, I’ll be introducing them Trimble SketchUp (formerly by Google) and teach them to transform their 2D plans into matching 3D renderings. Attached are a few steps in my planning process. Brainstorming on the plan board, a concept map, and a few of the student paper floor plans.
